Surrey’s Summer Gardens & Hampton Court Palace Flower Show
7-10 July 2010
Only 20 miles from London, Surrey is the most wooded county in Britain and boasts some of the most beautiful countryside and gardens.
We will be staying in the Ramada Jarvis
hotel (pictured left), near Guildford, and from here we will visit the first of three
private gardens in this area. Longer End Cottage, in the delightful
village of Normandy, is divided into rooms and crammed with a wide
variety of plants, shrubs and trees, along with a knot garden, wild
flower meadow and romantic rose-draped folly.
Our next garden, Foxhill, is a 4 acre formal garden with herbaceous and mixed planting, partly designed by Gertrude Jekyll in the 1920s. Stuart Cottage, our last visit, is a 16th century cottage with a mix of formal and informal planting and set within a ½ acre partly walled garden. A small, but beautifully arranged garden.
The Hampton Court Palace Flower Show
(pictured left, Silver medal winner),
one of the world’s most vibrant horticultural shows, takes place in the
idyllic setting of Henry VIII’s favourite palace. The show ticket also
includes entrance to Hampton Court Palace gardens.
En route we will visit The Savill Garden, part of the Windsor Great Park, with its fabulous herbaceous borders and formal rose gardens, the unique Temperate House containing tender woodland plants, and wonderful parkland. Returning home, we will spend time at RHS Garden Wisley, Surrey, the flagship garden of the RHS with richly planted borders, wonderful rose gardens and the new state-of-the-art Glasshouse.

Departure points: Saxilby, Lincoln, Newark, Leicester, Lutterworth We may pick-up from a limited number of other points if they are en route and easy for coach access.
