Garden holidays in Snowdonia and Anglesey
Gardens of
Snowdonia and Anglesey
The
Snowdonia National Park is one of the most spectacular regions of the
United Kingdom, and contains many wonderful gardens.
Please note:
This holiday was featured in our 2008 brochure and is not part
of our current programme. Please
contact us if you
would like to see this itinerary included in the future.
On
our Gardens of Snowdonia and Anglesey tour, the Royal Oak Hotel,
Betwys-y-Coed, is the choice for our stay and from here we make our
journey through wonderful scenery to visit two very different gardens on
the island of Anglesey. ‘Rhyd’ is a private garden packed with unusual
plants and features within its 2.5 acres, and Plas Newydd, the classical
home of the Marquess of Anglesey, is a garden set amidst beautiful
scenery on the banks of the Menai Strait.
On
the coast of Snowdonia, Portmeirion captures the imagination – an
impressive Italian-style garden village, which is surrounded by the
Gwyllt sub-tropical gardens and woodlands, with miles of sandy beaches.
A tour around the display gardens of Crug Nursery will reveal an
outstanding selection of plants, with many being grown from seeds
collected during expeditions abroad.
En
route to North Wales we will stop at Bridgmere Garden World and then
Bodnant Garden, which combines dramatic formal terraces with extensive
woodland plantings on the grandest of scales. On our return journey
home, we will visit the hugely impressive structured garden at Powis
Castle, with wonderfully rich colour planting and magnificent views, and
finally the centre of excellence for organic gardening, Garden Organic
Ryton.
