Garden holidays in Shropshire

One of England’s most rural of counties, Shropshire’s rugged yet beautiful landscape contains many delightful gardens.

From The Long Mynd Hotel, Church Stretton, we visit the Dower House, a private garden which tells the story of English gardening through a range of different styles, and then on to Lower Hall, a plantsman’s garden containing wonderful herbaceous borders, a rose garden, courtyard and water garden.

The unique private garden at Brown Hill House is full of many surprises and contrasts with one of the country’s finest gardens, Hodnet Hall. Woodland walks, water gardens, herbaceous borders and a well stocked kitchen garden are all to be viewed in a delightful setting, allowing our senses to relax before visiting Preen Manor which has a stylish garden with some original ideas to complement the historic old site, and wonderful views of Wenlock Edge.

En route to Shropshire we will visit David Austin Roses, to see the beautiful display gardens containing over 700 different varieties of rose, and Wollerton Old Hall, a garden developed on a strong formal design with many separate gardens, each with its own character.

On our return journey home, we will visit Burford House Gardens, famous for its collection of clematis, and Packwood House, with its wonderful topiary and magnificent herbaceous borders.
