Northern Gardens

The Northern counties of England contain a wonderful, diverse range of gardens, which we will be exploring on this early Autumn tour.
The
Hardwick Hall Hotel is situated in
the County of Durham and from here we visit Wallington, in the county of
Northumberland, which has 65 acres of landscaped gardens with a
wonderful walled garden set in a sheltered valley and accessed through
an attractive woodland walk. We journey on to visit Halls of Heddon, a
nursery famous for their cultivation of chrysanthemums and dahlias,
where we will be visiting their magnificent show fields displaying over
15,000 plants.
Our trip to Durham City begins with a
visit to The University of Durham Botanic Garden which
contains a cactus
and tropical house, an alpine garden and area for South African plants,
a very attractive North American arboretum and interesting ‘Prince
Bishop’s Garden’. From here we visit the delightful Crook Hall and
Gardens, a medieval manor house surrounded by romantic themed gardens
and boasting magnificent views of the Cathedral and Castle. Before
returning to our hotel, we will spend some free time in the City.
En route to the County of Durham we spend time at Raby Castle, to visit the 18th century walled gardens set within a 200 acre deer park in the heart of Teesdale. Returning to Lincoln, we call in to the delightful Thorp Perrow Arboretum to see the onset of autumn colour throughout their wonderful grounds.
