Garden holidays in NorfolkThe County of Norfolk, famous for its broads and fens, is one of the quieter corners of England, with many hidden beauty spots – especially gardens. Please note: This holiday was featured in our 2008 brochure and is not part of our current programme. Please contact us if you would like to see this itinerary included in the future. * * *
Staying at The Maids Head Hotel in Norwich, we travel to the Old Vicarage at East Ruston, to explore this remarkable and very enjoyable garden. There is an astonishing profusion of plants, many quite rare and semi-hardy owing to the garden’s coastal setting. Then as a complete contrast, we visit The Old Cottage Garden, an enchanting private garden with generous borders and plenty of interest. Time in Norwich to wander over to the Cathedral and then on to the lovely walled gardens of Hoveton Hall, which includes herbaceous borders, traditional vegetable planting and a water garden. Our last visit will be to the amazing Exotic Garden, a real hidden gem on a south-facing hillside, with tall trees and hedges creating a sheltered microclimate. A garden with a truly subtropical feel. En route to Norwich we spend time amongst the splendid herbaceous borders and ornamental plantings of Sandringham House, and then on to the breathtaking, naturalistic planting of Piet Oudolf’s Millenium Garden at the Pensthorpe Nature Reserve. On our return home, we will visit Bressingham Gardens, which continues to be an inspirational source of ideas for the smaller garden and then on to the display gardens of West Acre, near Kings Lynn. Cost: £315 per person (single room supplement £15 per night). Your Great Garden Getaway includes:
